Hedge funds and other institutional investors are increasingly interested in cryptocurrencies, and a review of various performance-related crypto data sets makes it easy to see why.

A study conducted by Forteus Research earlier this year found that traditional Wall Street strategies have generated almost 0% alpha versus the S&P 500, at least for most of the last decade. Meanwhile, bitcoin has been trouncing the returns of traditional strategies, generating a return on investment of 1,576% annually on average, according to Haipo Yang, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx.

Meanwhile, Aaro Capital, one of the first investment specialists focused on crypto assets and distributed ledger technology, pointed out that crypto markets offer inefficiencies that can be capitalized upon.
